Leaving Cape Town

hi everybody;)

So, it's my last night in Bergvilet; a nice suburb to CT where I have been staying for the last week with rest of the South-Africa crew. Have had a amazing time here, gotten to see more CT and it has been a bit less hectic than Stellenb. But tomorrow I'm leaving for East London together with Camilla, Frank and Thierry, which also are staying in communities in Eastern Cape. First drop of will be Camilla, so I will most likely be in Mt. Frere on Friday. Am getting excited, scared and nervous and everything else I'M probably suppose to be feeling at this time. The rest of the guys left to day, so it's been good having an extra day to stress down and relax. Going to miss the group a lot, but I guess it's time to get started on what I'm really here to do.
In Mt.Frere I will be working on a program called Leading the Game, which includes programs called "Youth Leads", "School Sport", and"SCORE for All" . Guess that don't tell you guys much, but it basically means helping developing sport in the community, helping with organising leagues, festivals ect. and training youth to lead sports in the community.
In Mt.Frere I will be staying with a hostfamiliy. Don't know much about the jet, only that the dad is a mechanic, the mother has her own shop in the town and that they have one daughter. I will be working on 5 schools, and the one I will be working most on is only 1 km. from "my home".

Hope you are all doing well, enjoy the rest of your summer, and I would love to hear how you all are doing. keep me updated!!

will finish of with a quote my dear roommate Tanja gave me:

My will shall shape the future. Whether I fail or succeed shall be no man's doing but my own. I am the force; I can clear any obstacle before me or I can be lost in the maze. My choice; my responsibility; win or lose, only I hold the key to my destiny.

Mount Frere

My new hometown for the next 12 months are Mount Frere. Its an small town in Eastern Cape, below Lesotho! Don't know to much about it jet, only that its a lively place and the town is divided by a big state- road! Will be moving in to Cape Town with the other volunteers that is also staying in South Africa. Are having specific orientation there for a week so I'll get to know more then. Other than that, I'm doing fine. We had a great day yesterday. Some of us went on a Wine-tour to 3 different wineries. Stellebousch is the biggest Wine area in South Africa, with about 4000-5000 wineries! At night we had a Country-party. everyone decorated a room at the boys doorms with stuff from their country and served drinks. So we had Norwegian flags, music pictures and served Aqevitt and Karsk! First time I've tried Krask, and I don't recommend it:) I left my camera in one of the Norwegian guys room when we went to the bars, but last night while he was sleeping, some South-African Rugby players that also was staying at the dorms, came into his room and stole his camera and my camera!! Idiots! but its just a camera and I can get a new one. Luckily I got my luggage, cause some of the girls are still missing theirs, and they are going to Namibia and Zambia on Tuesday!
So everything is good, very tires to day so I think I'll end here. Having a hard time concentrating in English!:)

Hi guys:)

Finally in South Africa, more specifically in the town of Stellenbosch. ( http://www.stellenbosch.org.za) It's a small university town just outside Cape Town, surrounded by wineries. Beautiful :) We are staying at a part of the university and will be here until the 17Th. I'm sharing a room with a girl from Canada (shocking!!) :) and my room is actually nicer than the one I stayed in at the dorms in Aussie. So I haven't seen anything of Real Africa jet except for the townships we drove by on our way from the airport. Tomorrow we have the day of so we are heading in to Cape Town and a some of us are going to Robben Island, which the prison where Nelson Mandela was imprisened.(http://www.robben-island.org.za/)

The course with SCORE is really interesting as well. We are 40 people from Zambia, Namibia, SA,Zimbabwe, Holland and Canada. I think on Wednesday I will know where I will be working and living for the next 12 months!!

So I'm doing fine, really excited about the program, met many great people, but is still without any of my luggage. All our luggage is still in London together with a 1000 other "misplaced" bags so we don't know when will get it! Never Heathrow or British Airways again!

I'm Staying safe,
take care :)

On My Way

So, I'm finally on my way to South Africa to work as a sport volunteer for youth and children for 12 months. Sorry to all of you I haven't called (as I promised Kari; I'm so sorry!!) and not sms'ed back. The last couple days have I have been really stressed since I leave everything to the last minute!

I started my journey today together with 12 other Norwegians who are going to Southern Africa as well; 3 of us to South Africa, 2 to Zimbabwe, 4 to Namibia and 3 are going to Zambia. We are all staying in Cape Town for 12 days first with SCORE (Sport Coach OutReach), which is the Organisation we will be working for in Africa. We were suppose to fly from Oslo to Heathrow, and then to Cape Town, but because of al the delays in both Norway and London, and the fact that the (idiot?) who booked our flight gave us only one hour transfer at Heathrow, we missed our flight to Cape Town. So now I'm sitting in a hotel by the airport and will not be in Cape Town untill Friday morning. But most of us don't really mind an extra night in a normal bed and hot shower!:)

I'm really nervous and excited and scared and everything at the same time at the moment. But I'm glad there are 12 of us who are in the same boat. Can't wait to get to Cape Town and meet the people from SCORE and learn more about what we are going to do and get some practise in the Townships. And experience Cape Town City as well:) Within the first week we will also learn where we will be working for the next 12 months and what they want us to do there!!

Well, I think I'm of to bed now! Sorry about mu english, but Its 1.20 am and I'm falling a sleep!

Promise to take care of myself and try to keep this page updated!

Enjoy your summer everyone!!

Best Wishes to all of you;)
